Some Areas Much Better Than Others for Finding a Job
I was reading a post on the SimplyHired blog yesterday that pointed out the vast differences in the labor markets in various cities throughout the U.S. Needless to say – at least for those where the going is decidedly tough – there are some cities and metropolitan areas out there where it is extremely difficult to find gainful employment. At the top of the list of cities where it’s easiest to find a job are Des Moines, Washington DC, Omaha, West Palm Beach and Salt Lake City. Those cities average 5-8 active job seekers for every 1 available position, making… [Continue Reading]
Environmental Jobs are Scorching Hot
I guess I should really have expected nothing less. We did, after all, just launch an environmental job board, but it’s still a bit surprising to me just how many people out there are looking for “green jobs,” as they are so often referred to. It’s a naturally popular industry, of course. The media are constantly highlighting advances in technology, as well as new policy, that are intended to help the environment. Reports of global warming have also placed the dangers to our environment in the collective consciousness, the result of which is that “the environment” has now taken its… [Continue Reading]
Mixed Emotions on Twitter, but Job Listings Way to Go
Call me a curmudgeon, but something about Twitter rubs me the wrong way. I don’t care what Ashton Kutcher has to say, and I REALLY don’t care what Chad Johnson (aka Chad “Ochocinco”) has to say. These are people whose mouths should be sewn shut and fingers tied together just so their ridiculous thoughts and ideas CANNOT see the light of day. Twitter, on the other hand, allows them to be heard by the masses. Of course, when Ashton Kutcher’s thoughts are more widely followed than the national news, one could certainly digress into a diatribe regarding the state of… [Continue Reading]
Unemployment Still Rising
The U.S. Department of Labor has reported that the number of seasonally-adjusted, first-time unemployment claims rose to 576,000 this week, a sign that the tumultuous employment market has not quite settled down even as the overall economy seems to be just sniffing the beginnings of a recovery. The number of folks out there conducting a job search is clearly on the rise, as anecdotal evidence in the form of blog comments and forum posts indicates heavy conversation on the topic. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke noted yesterday that the U.S. economy is at the earliest stages of a recovery, specifically… [Continue Reading]
Yes, Niche is the Way to Go With Job Boards
I’m not trying to convince anyone that niche job boards represent a “paradigm shift” within the so-called job board “space.” I just take it for granted that this is the case, and anyone can choose to agree or disagree. But anyone conducting even a casual, objective analysis of what is going on with job boards in general should be able to clearly see the proverbial writing on the wall, i.e. – there are A LOT of new job boards being launched daily, and the vast majority of them are of the “targeted” variety (or vertical, niche, etc.). I think Dice.com… [Continue Reading]
Locate Jobs Network Launches
Though it’s not as auspicious a start as ours previous ventures – with one particular job board launching, appropriately, on Labor Day – we, the founders of the Locate Jobs Network and the job search websites that are to be included in the network, are very excited to announce the launch of the network. It’s starting simply enough, with six highly-targeted job boards. The initial half dozen niche job websites will focus on Sales, Aerospace, Environmental, NICU, Logistics and Paralegal Jobs. Quite the menagerie, as it turns out, but rest assured that there is a method to the madness of… [Continue Reading]
