Radiology Job Outlook
In the midst of a bad employment market, there are many job seekers wondering exactly what types of jobs employers are still hiring for. To a large extent, entry-level jobs are drying up, and those with specific (and hard to obtain) skillsets and educational backgrounds are finding it easier to find new jobs. Radiology is one such field, where employment is expected to increase fairly dramatically over the next year and further into the next decade. A BLS study of employment markets noted this:
Employment change. Employment of radiologic technologists is expected to increase by about 15 percent from 2006 to 2016, faster than the average for all occupations. As the population grows and ages, there will be an increasing demand for diagnostic imaging. Although health care providers are enthusiastic about the clinical benefits of new technologies, the extent to which they are adopted depends largely on cost and reimbursement considerations.
For those with the requisite skills already, this means that employment in the radiology field is relatively stable – even those losing their jobs should be able to find another fairly easily. For others thinking about a career change, however, radiology could be a good choice. It should also be noted that radiologists with experience in multiple technologies are best suited to easily find employment, so those thinking about a switch from one employer to another within the field should consider this if offered the opportunity to work outside their primary field.
For those searching for employment in the field, the Locate Jobs Network offers a radiology job board that focuses entirely on this field of employment. Among the positions posted to the site are jobs for CT Techs, MRI specificalists, Mammographers, and many more.
