LinkedIn Passes on Monster.com: Big Board Still Looking for Buyer

May 14, 2012 · Michael Wist

Shares of Monster Worldwide (NYSE: MWW) jumped over 20% on Friday, as rumors swirled that industry leader LinkedIn might be interested in acquiring the job board behemoth. As those rumors have been swept aside, Monster’s shares have reacted as expected, off about 4% in mid-day trading so far. Looking more closely at the situation with Monster, one has to wonder what its potential sale means for the job board industry and online recruiting in general. LinkedIn is enjoying a very successful ride as a publicly traded company, recently announcing a Q1 revenue jump of over 100%. Simply mentioning LinkedIn in… [Continue Reading]

Online Recruiting as a Marketing and Advertising Endeavor

February 21, 2011 · Michael Wist

It was only about 12 or 13 years ago that the big online job boards started to assert themselves as major threats to the employment ads in print newspapers across the country. Now, printed newspapers are dying off rapidly, largely as a result of the various advertising revenue streams migrating to the Internet, with employment ads being among the most important to defect. As I was… [Continue Reading]

Mixed Emotions on Twitter, but Job Listings Way to Go

August 24, 2009 · Matthew Blevins

Call me a curmudgeon, but something about Twitter rubs me the wrong way. I don’t care what Ashton Kutcher has to say, and I REALLY don’t care what Chad Johnson (aka Chad “Ochocinco”) has to say. These are people whose mouths should be sewn shut and fingers tied together just so their ridiculous thoughts and ideas CANNOT see the light of day. Twitter, on the other hand, allows them to be heard by the masses. Of course, when Ashton Kutcher’s thoughts are more widely followed than the national news, one could certainly digress into a diatribe regarding the state of… [Continue Reading]
