Yes, Niche is the Way to Go With Job Boards
I’m not trying to convince anyone that niche job boards represent a “paradigm shift” within the so-called job board “space.” I just take it for granted that this is the case, and anyone can choose to agree or disagree. But anyone conducting even a casual, objective analysis of what is going on with job boards in general should be able to clearly see the proverbial writing on the wall, i.e. – there are A LOT of new job boards being launched daily, and the vast majority of them are of the “targeted” variety (or vertical, niche, etc.).
I think Dice.com is probably one of the most well-known and largest of the verticals, having been firmly established as a leader in the IT job board arena. But there are so many others out there that it would take a blog unto itself to list and discuss them. In launching the Locate Jobs Network sites, we’ve naturally had some contact from other folks in the industry. Some are trying to sell us something, some are just saying hello and doing some networking.
One that impressed me, however, was Niall Kelly over at JobsOnlineGroup.ie. They are our counterpart across the pond in Ireland. Well, let me clarify – they’ve been around a lot longer than we have, and are much more developed at this point. The real similarities are in a clear focus on the “niche” space and an adherance to this principle in the development of new job boards. In looking at the JobsOnlineGroup site, it’s clear they’ve already launched boards in the accounting, sales, computer/IT and administrative fields and I’m willing to bet that more will follow.
For those interested , here’s a snippet from their website noting the benefits of utilizing the JobsOnlineGroup sites to post jobs and locate candidates:
We are Irelands top niche jobs boards for thousands of employers (and agencies) who get the simplicity of what we do.
By advertising your jobs on a NICHE website that caters for a specific professional, you are guaranteed the response to your job will be just the quality you are looking for.
THE FACTS
50,000 visitors to our sites each month, 5,000 jobs advertised each month, 6,000 CV applications made each month. And the best part: you also get access to 4,000 LIVE CV’s of job seekers in our searchable CV databases.
There’s no mention of the job seeker benefits in the text I’ve chosen to highlight here, but it should be fairly obvious to the savvy employment candidate – “horizontal” job boards can offer value, of course, but why not fish in a smaller (read: more targeted) pond? (pardon the methaphor)
